  • Bogotáis the capital of the Republic of Colombia and of the department of Cundinamarca. It consists of twenty localities and is the country's political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, sporting, and tourism epicenter.
  • It is located in the center of Colombia, in the natural region known as La sabana de Bogotá, which is part of the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, a mountainous formation located in the eastern Andes. It is the third highest capital in South America (behind La Paz and Quito), at an average 2,625 meters above sea level. It has the largest wilderness in the world, located in Sumapaz.
  • According to estimates to 2014, Bogotá has a population of 7,776,845 inhabitants. It is 33 km in length from north to south and 16 km from east to west. It hosts the highest ranking bodies of the executive (Casa de Nariño), legislative (Congress of Colombia), and judicial branch (Supreme Court of Justice, Constitutional Court, State Council and the High Judicial Council).
  • It is Colombia's most important economic and industrial center. According to its department of statistics (DANE), Bogotá accounts for the majority of domestic GDP (24.5%) and has the seventh largest GDP among Latin American cities.
  • According to The Economist, Bogotá is known for its economic strength related to the size of its production and per capita GDP (the highest of the nation's major cities), the facilities for creating companies and doing business, financial maturity, the attraction of global companies, and quality of human capital.
