Guatemala City is divided into 25 zones (excluding zones 20, 22, and 23 which belong to other municipalities).
The concentration of economic and financial centers which house international offices has extended towards the south of the Guatemalan capital, especially zones 1, 4, 5, 9, and 10. In these zones there are large buildings occupied by finance companies.
Industry is concentrated largely in zone 12. However, new urban projects put manufacturing plants closer to the major roads leading to the Pacific and Atlantic.
Large commercial areas are built in different parts of the capital, however, the urban complex Las Majadas retail park is worth mentioning since it is the biggest shopping area in the country and includes five shopping malls.
