  • Morelia is the most populated and extensive city in the state of Michoacán and the twentieth most populous in Mexico, with an area of 78 square kilometers and a population of 797,511 inhabitants according to the Population and Housing Census 2010,l INEGI. It is the most important city in the state from a social, economic, cultural, and political viewpoint.
  • Morelia has inherited a rich, cultural lifestyle. Its architectural heritage, preserved since Colonial times, led Morelia to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991.
  • Morelia's main economic activity is in services, primarily financial, real estate, and tourism, followed by construction, manufacturing and lastly, primary sector activities.
  • As part of its active touristic life, the city hosts important annual cultural events such as international music, organ, film, and gastronomy festivals.
