  • Querétaro is the most important city and capital of the state of Querétaro, and the seat of the municipality of the same name.
  • It is located 221 km to the northeast of Mexico City at an altitude of 1,820 meters above sea level.
  • It has a population of 1,097,028 inhabitants (INEGI, 2010) in the metropolitan area, making it the tenth largest metro area by population in Mexico.
  • It is part of the Bajío macro-region. The historic region of Santiago de Querétaro was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.
  • The living standard in Santiago de Querétaro is among the highest in Mexico and Latin America, mainly due to the low crime and unemployment rates.
  • It is the metropolitan area with the highest per capita GDP in Mexico. The Financial Times considers it a Latin American city of the future.
  • In March 2014 the city together with its metropolitan area was considered among the hundred most competitive in the world, with Mexico City and Monterrey, the only three Mexican cities on the list.
  • It pioneered a shared bike system as a means of sustainable transport, although the number of cars is notably higher.
  • It is considered one of the cleanest cities in the world.

Opportunities

  • Aerospace: Attraction of companies and development of domestic suppliers due to the steady growth of the Aerospace Cluster and the Aerospace University.
  • Food (agricultural and processed): Promotion of the export of Mexican processed foods, dairy, fresh organic produce (fruits and vegetables).
  • Automotive: Attraction of assemblers and development of domestic suppliers. / The state's automotive cluster is under development and construction has begun on the Automotive University.
