  • Culiacán, officially Culiacán Rosales, is a city in northwestern Mexico, the capital and largest city of the state of Sinaloa and the municipality of Culiacán.
  • The city has an average annual per capita income of 6,298.1 dollars (2007), and accounts for 48.4% the state GDP. The state has a human development index of 0.8634 (2005) positioning it in third place.
  • Sinaloa is the national leader of the food industry and Culiacán leads the state with corn production of around five million tons. It is also the leader in vegetable production (tomato, cucumber, chili peppers, eggplant, and squash), fruits (mango, melon, and watermelon) and grains (bean, soybean, safflower, rice, wheat, and sorghum).
  • Livestock is also an important activity. Breeding and fattening of cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs and the production of meat and milk from these species, places the city as a national leader in the industry.
  • The poultry industry is also in important development breeding and fattening hundreds of thousands of chickens a year; the industry makes an important contribution to the municipal GDP.

  • Renewable energies: Important opportunity for the installation of mini hydro-electric stations in hydraulic dams and in and for the establishment of solar panels throughout the state, given the intensity of the sun.
  • Mining: High availability of natural resources given its proximity to the Sierra Madre Occidental (Western Sierra Madre) primarily in iron ore and precious metals like gold and silver.
